Dissolve: Gradual transition from one image to another to link shots together e.g. Citizen Kane 

Wipe: Types of film transition where one shot replaces another by travelling from one side of the frame to another to make things appear less natural and reminds you that you are watching a film e.g. Star Wars III

Fade to black: Screen fades to black to show a definent end e.g. Beyonce's If I were a boy

Fade to white: Screen fades to white e.g. Black Swan

Graphic Match: Creates a cut between two shots that juxtapose their graphically similiar images to create or tether links between shots e.g. Psycho plughole and eye shot
